TEED stands for the Texas Energy Education Development Project. We are a group of student council members and sponsors dedicated to educating students across Texas on a variety of topics, including energy, conservation, recycling, and helping the environment in general. We create statewide projects, release a newsletter every quarter, and hold a summer camp annually. In addition, we are also responsible for overseeing the State Energy & Environment form. TEED encourages schools to become part of the National Energy Education Development Project, NEED.
TEED is about educating students on the environment and ways to protect and save it, but exactly how do we accomplish this? Through the newsletter, we are able to inform students and our members on current environmental issues, such as alternative fuel sources, new uses for recycled materials, and new laws protecting the environment. We also include project ideas. One of the projects we promote is weatherization, which is the process of making a home energy efficient. Over the course of doing this project, students learn how to insulate a water heater to prevent heat from escaping, caulk windows and doors to prevent air from leaking in and out of the house, and place foam gaskets on electrical sockets. Another cool project, Xeriscaping, teaches students how to arrange plants around their home that would be most suitable for the region in which they live in order to minimize watering and care. As a bonus, TEED even provides an energy kit upon membership.
